How much does a digital marketing agency cost in Los Angeles?
What a Los Angeles digital marketing agency costs, what drives the price, how fees differ from ad budgets, and how to compare quotes fairly.
Short answer
It depends on scope. An agency fee pays for planning, production, management and reporting, and it grows with the number of services, channels and markets. Ad spend is paid to Google or Meta on top of the fee. For reference, our published packages start at $1,000 a month for social media and $1,500 for paid media management.
"How much does an agency cost?" is usually the first question a business owner asks, and the least satisfying to answer. Two agencies can quote very different amounts for what sounds like the same job, because the job is rarely the same. This guide explains what an agency fee covers, the factors that move it, and how to compare quotes so you know what you are actually buying.
What an agency fee pays for
Most of an agency fee is people's time. Whatever the channel, that time goes into a few kinds of work:
- Strategy: deciding who to reach, with what message, on which channels and with what budget.
- Production: ads, posts, videos, landing pages, website pages and written content.
- Management: launching, monitoring and adjusting campaigns, and handling the platform settings.
- Measurement and reporting: tracking leads and sales, and explaining what happened and what changes next.
- Coordination: meetings, approvals and keeping the work moving with your team.
When one quote is much lower than another, it usually means less of one of these: fewer pieces of content, less frequent changes to campaigns, a lighter report, or less senior people doing the work.
The factors that move the price
- How many services you need. Paid media, SEO, social media and a website are separate pieces of work, even when one team runs them.
- How many channels and markets. Running Google and Meta costs more to manage than one platform, and every extra city, country or language adds setup and reporting.
- How much is produced each month. Ten posts and twenty posts are different jobs, and video takes longer than static images.
- Your starting point. A business with working tracking, a clear brand and a fast website needs less setup than one starting from scratch.
- Speed and deadlines. A launch that has to happen in two weeks needs more people at once.
- How you want to work. Weekly calls, detailed dashboards and several approvers all take time.
Agency fee and ad budget are two different numbers
If you run ads, there are two costs. The agency fee pays for the work. The ad budget is paid to the platform, such as Google or Meta, and buys the clicks and views. Always ask whether a quote includes ad spend, because some proposals mix the two and make comparisons hard.
You stay in control of the ad budget. On Google Ads, for example, you set an average daily budget. Google explains that spend can go up to twice that amount on a busy day, but in a billing month you are not charged more than 30.4 times your average daily budget. A $10 daily budget therefore means at most $304 for the month.
Common ways agencies charge
- Monthly retainer: a fixed fee for an agreed scope each month. This is the most common model for ongoing work like ads, SEO and social media.
- Project fee: a fixed price for something with a clear end, such as a website, a brand identity or a campaign launch.
- Hourly or day rate: common for consulting and small, unpredictable tasks.
- Percentage of ad spend: some agencies charge a share of the media budget, often combined with a minimum fee for larger accounts.
No model is right for everyone. What matters is that you can see what is included and what would cost extra.

Why the cheapest quote can cost more
A low monthly fee can still be expensive if the work does not move the business. Watch for quotes that promise many channels for a small fee, skip conversion tracking, report only on reach and likes, or lock you into a long contract before you have seen any results. Ask who will do the work day to day and how much of their time your account gets.
How to compare quotes fairly
Send every agency the same short brief: the business problem, how you will judge success, a budget range and what already exists. Then ask each one to answer in the same shape: approach, what is included, timeline, fee, ad budget and how progress is reported. Differences in price become much easier to understand when the answers line up.

Frequently asked questions
- Is ad spend included in the agency fee?
- Usually not. The agency fee pays for the work, and the ad budget is paid directly to platforms such as Google or Meta. Our paid media prices are for management only; ad spend is separate. Always check how a quote treats the two.
- Can a small business start with just one service?
- Yes, and it is often the best way to start. Pick the service closest to your most urgent goal, such as paid search for enquiries this month, prove it works, then add more. We start most clients with one or two services.
- What should a monthly report include?
- What was spent, what it produced in leads, calls, bookings or sales, what was learned and what changes next month. Reach and likes are useful context, but they should not be the main measure for a business that needs customers.
- How does 8 Digital Marketing price a project?
- Our service pages show published starting prices. We confirm scope and the final price after a free review of your goals, market, timeline and existing assets, and we confirm the price with you before any work starts.
